Let me give you all a different perspective on Band. With the 2001-2002 schooll, this will be the 31st year of Marching field competition for the HHS band of Tigers. As I look back over the years, I really don't think about the wins and losses we accumulated, although wins are more fun. What I remember most of all is the freindships I made that are still valuable to me. As we go through this season, remember one thing both Elizabeth and Liz have touched on- This is supposed to be fun! Now that is not to say that we all can just joke around all the time and not care or put our best effort out all the time. We need to practice hard, and with a purpose, everytime. But above all, this is a learning experience, and something that will help you all the rest of your life. As you work with a group of people, whether it is just your section or the band as a whole, think about the other person. The relationship you are working on today will still be there in the years to come. Believe me, that is the most important thing you can get from ! band. You can be the best musician in the world, but if you are a jerk at the same time, what does it matter. When I see someone like Mr. Mann, or John and Annie Mahre, or Richard and Donna Leavell, Herbie- they have been my friends for many years, and all because of band. I hope we all have a great year coming up. Work to win- strive to be the best Band you can be- and have a good time- I know I will. Oh, and Percussion Section- it will be fun!
