I guess since I'm the one that started this whole thing, I'm going to have to make an example of what I want this to be. This is probably going to end up being something stupid, but I wanted a spot on this page where members of the band could speak freely about how they feel. I don't think we ever get a chance to do that. There aren't a lot of things that's really bothering me right now. There's the Matt issue, but I don't think I'll discuss that right now. One thing that's getting to me is our work ethic. Mr. Knob is always telling us that we don't win a contest the day of the contest. We win it the first day we start practice for that marching season, or concert season. I've noticed that at the beginning of every season, we just don't really care about anything. We think that as long as we can play a few notes and places here and there that we're set for the entire season. I noticed that last marching season [2000] some people didn't even have their music memorized at regionals. That's really, really sad you guys. I'm not saying everyone did this, but enough people did to bring us down and not make it to state. Last year, some sectionals were taken as play time, or gossip hour, and no one worked. Well, almost no one. There were some really good sections this year. But there were also some really bad ones. I want this year to be completely different. When I plan a sectional for my section, I fully intent to work their asses off and make sure they have every note memorized by the first show. I'll do the same to myself. I'm not going to yell at them for not having a few spots memorized if I have spots not memorized too. And I'm not going to be this pain in the butt section leader either. I plan on being their friend at the same time and let them know that I'm only woking them hard because I want to win and be successful. This band hasn't been to state in 2 years and I'm craving it. Once we get a set schedule for next season and once we start having practices with the 8th graders, I think all soon to be section leaders need to start thinking about sectionals. I'll probably end up having them a lot only because I might have a big section. But if you're going to have a small section, you may not need as many. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job. I'm just asking you that you do it and you do it to the best of your ability. I don't want to suck this year guys. I don't want to be sitting at home the day of state. I want the hard work for marching season to start now so we can prove everyone wrong when they say that Hopkinsville just "doesn't have it anymore". I'm tired of people talking trash about us, and I want to rock next year. We have a kick butt show, we just gotta work our butts off, have fun at the same time, and do our jobs. Plus, I was thinking of a song for circle next year. Ok. Of course we'll play "Friends", that's traditional, but I don't want no sappy mushy song playing after that to get me down. I was thinking of the cha cha song. I mean, I think that'd get everyone pumped up, it'd be cool to dance and have fun for a few minutes before a show. I think that's one thing we've been missing. We're always concentrating really hard before a show, I think we forget that we're suppose to have fun while we're performing too. And something like the cha cha would set the right mood :) Well I'm out. I think this is what I want for this section of the page. It's pretty cool. :) Later sweetz. be good.
